A MUCH loved Arnold Clark employee has finally pressed the brakes on her career - 31 years after starting with the local branch.

Marryanne Cairns from Greenock has been part of the Volkswagen team at the East Hamilton Street garage for over three decades.

The grandmother enjoyed a number of roles before becoming fleet co-ordinator, a post she has held for the past 27 years.

Now she is taking early retirement to spend more time with her grandchildren.

Marryanne, who celebrated her 64th birthday on her final day at the branch, says she'll 'miss the people' as she moves on to a new journey.

The Greenockian told the Tele: "I have absolutely loved this job.

"I always say it cannot be too bad, as I've been here for so long!

"There's a real family feel at this branch, everyone knows everyone and we look out for each other.

"I'll miss that element of the job so much."

The proud grandmother to eight-year-old Carrick and Grayson, who is five, was given a fitting send off with flowers, gifts and cards from the local team.

Marryanne says one of the most enjoyable aspects of her job was getting the chance to speak to people all over the country.

She said: "Part of my job was overseeing the Volkswagen fleet so I got to speak to people all over the country.

"Because of that, I've had well-wishes from all areas of the business.

"I had the best day on my retirement, although I'm now looking forward to being a lady who lunches and enjoys things like Zumba and aqua aerobics.

"The best part is I will be able to go down to England to see my family and not have to rush back for work.

"I can now stay as long as I like."
