A YOUNG golfer was pitch perfect as he scooped a prestigious title on a world famous course.

Kilmacolm Golf Club member Alfie Hammond, 14, triumphed in the final of the Junior Golf Scotland tour at Carnoustie.

The tour started sees young golfers play at 10 different courses all over Scotland, including Gleneagles.

Each player took forward their two best net scores and on the final day, they were added to the final event score at Carnoustie.

Young Alfie became the 18 Hole Strokeplay champion after a round of net 72 and won the overall tour final by three strokes.

Junior Golf Scotland is one of the four main golf tours for junior golfers in the country and Alfie, who is a pupil at St Columba's High School in Kilmacolm, said he's very proud to have taken the title.

He said: "There were strong winds on the day and it was a very difficult course, so I'm really pleased with the result.

"I loved seeing all the different places on the tour.

"Two of my favourite courses to play on were in Aviemore and Machrihanish Dunes.

"It's been great just to be involved and winning made it even more special."

Alfie has been a member of Kilmacolm Golf Club since he was eight - but started playing golf games on the Wii Fit when he was just three.

He practises for around three hours a day and now wants to get his handicap down from 19.2.

Alfie's proud dad Roddy, who is junior convenor at the club, said: "I'm really envious of the courses Alfie's had the chance to play on!

"We made family weekend trips out of the tour and it was great for us to get quality family time together.

"Alfie has done so well and it's been a great opportunity for him to improve his game."
