A GREENOCK schoolgirl has smashed her own fundraising record in a bid to make sure every local child has a gift under the tree this Christmas.

Skye McCabe - with a helping hand from her mum and little brother - raffled luxury festive hampers to raise £1,400.

The 11-year-old then went on a very special Christmas shopping spree and bought hundreds of gifts for those in need.

The Aileymill Primary pupil has joined forces with Tesco Greenock's Toy Appeal to make sure youngsters wake up to a surprise on December 25.

Kind-hearted Skye is sharing her latest exploits with Tele readers to thank everyone who has supported her fundraising bid.

The primary seven pupil said: "I am so happy and thankful to all of the people who have helped this year. Lots of companies gave me raffle prizes and donations. and that helped us raise the most money ever."

"Seeing the total go up and up was amazing - but my favourite part of what we do is still picking the toys."

This is the sixth Christmas in a row Skye has teamed up with Tesco to help their festive charity drive.

Her gifts, along with thousands more from supermarket customers, will go to Inverclyde Health and Social Care, Women's Aid and the Inverclyde Foodbank.

Mum Nicole, who has helped Skye since she with the fundraiser since she was six-years-old, said: "I am so proud of her. She is such a determined little girl and wants to help everyone she can.

"She looks forward to this every year, and every time she just seems to do better and better."

Tesco Greenock Community Champion Lorella Sutherland hailed Skye's fantastic contribution.

She said: "Skye has been with me since I started the toy appeal along with her mum and now her young brother Ross is helping too.

"Together we have helped hundreds of kids get a gift at Christmas.

"Skye is such a very special little girl, her family should be so proud of her."
