A PAIR of musical maestros hit the high notes to secure a place in a prestigious training band.

St Stephen's High School pupils Cody Macdonald and Eve Doherty were right on cue as they successfully gained a spot in the West of Scotland Schools Training Band.

The flutists, who are both 15-years-old, submitted applications and were delighted to make the grade.

S4 pupil Cody, who is also in the Royal Conservatoire Juniors, said: "I am so pleased.

"I'm really looking forward to getting started and seeing what we learn."

The pair are also in the Inverclyde Schools' Wind Orchestra and play in the school flute ensemble and concert band.

Fellow S4 Eve added: "I'm really chuffed and think it is great we will get to meet in person.

"It's going to be brilliant."

Normally youngsters need to submit an audition piece, but due to Covid-19 they were asked to submit an application form this year.

They were able to apply with the support of Gemma Lamont, the new head of creative arts at the Port Glasgow school.

The proud teacher said: "Getting to know the pupils since I arrived has been a real delight and I am so pleased for Cody and Eve.

"They both work really hard and it is great to see them so successful.

"We have many talented musicians at St Stephen's High and Cody and Eve could not deserve this more."
