GREENOCK Wanderers' annual Boxing Day match has been cancelled due to current Covid-19 protocols.
The fixture - played between the Captain's XV and President's XV - is always a popular event as many former players and members return to Fort Matilda to join friends and family.
The club have also cancelled New Year events due to the current Scottish Government guidance.
A club spokesperson said: "Whilst we recognise that these events could have gone ahead under the new restrictions, we have decided to take what we feel is the responsible option to take, making sure that we do what we can to protect members and the local community.
"The club will be closed until further notice. We do plan on opening up again in the new year, restrictions allowing."
The Boxing Day fixture would have brought a welcome break from the first-team's efforts to stay in the Tennent's National League Three.
There is still a chance they can escape the trap door to Division One, with the remaining eight games at Fort Matilda.
Wanderers' director of rugby John Dyer hopes for a brighter 2022 for Grant Sweenie's men.
He said: "Past captains and coaches have been kind enough to give me plenty of advice on the present predicament we are in.
"Meanwhile, to all Wanderers fans, have a very magic Christmas."
