A FITNESS fanatic teenager from Greenock completed a tremendous triple crown by taking part in a trio of New Year's Day events.

It was a busy day for 16-year-old Abbigael Crawford as she ran Glenpark Harriers' Lyle Mile and the Greenock Parkrun 5k before plunging into the River Clyde for Royal Gourock Yacht Club's New Year's Day swim.

The talented athlete had participated in all three events individually in previous years, but Saturday was the first time she had attempted to complete them all in the same day.

Several older Harriers members joined Abbigael in tackling the feat.

Abbigael's day started off at 9.30am with the Greenock Parkrun on the Esplanade.

After completing the event, she then made her way to the bottom of Lyle Road for the 11am kick off of the Lyle Mile - the Harriers' annual uphill challenge.

Participants ran a one mile route up the steep hill to raise money for local charity Children in Poverty Inverclyde.

Abbigael then rounded her day off with a dip in the chilly waters off Royal Gourock Yacht Club.

It was a proud moment for the teen, who has only recently started competing in senior races at Glenpark recently.

The youngster told the Tele that her impressive treble was only her second biggest triumph, as she improved on her father Graeme's time in the Harriers' Wilson Trophy race last month.

Abbigael said: "Doing all three events has been a thing among Harriers members for a while, so I thought 'why not?'.

"I joined the Harriers when I was nine and I've absolutely loved it.

"I've done the three events before individually, but doing them all in the one go was something else entirely.

"I was really looking forward to taking part and I had a fantastic time on the day."
