POLICE have officially confirmed that the blaze that destroyed new homes being built in Port Glasgow is not being treated as wilful.
Families due to move into the properties in Dougliehill Terrace at the end of February were left devastated after the huge fire ripped through the building site last week.
Police Scotland say it has been established that cause of the fire was an electrical fault.
A spokesman for Police Scotland said the matter had been dealt with by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
Sergeant Jason Logsdon of Greenock police added: "Police attended at 3.20am on December 31 regarding a fire to buildings under construction on Dougliehill Terrace in Port Glasgow, however after investigation the incident was not considered to be a criminal matter and left with SFRS to make safe."
