A CAR burst into flames in a Gourock car park on Sunday afternoon.

Residents were shocked to see fire and smoke billowing out of the front of a vehicle parked in a bay just off the A770 on Kempock Street.

Onlookers raised the alarm just before 2.20pm.

A spokesperson for Scottish Fire and Rescue confirmed there were no reports of injuries and that firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze.

The spokesperson added: "We were alerted at 2.18pm on Sunday, January 9 to reports of a fire affecting a vehicle within a car park in Gourock.

"Operations control mobilised two appliances to the scene to extinguish the fire.

"There were no reported casualties."
