MORTON boss Dougie Imrie has challenged his players to go and match the benchmark they have set by following up with another home win over Raith Rovers at Cappielow tonight.

The 38-year-old says his men must match the level of performances put in in recent weeks if they want to keep their good run going.

Imrie insists John McGlynn’s side will be a tough test but believes his side can claim a crucial victory with the help of the Cappielow crowd.

He told the Tele: “Raith are a very good side.

"John has the philosophy to play really easy-on-the-eye football.

"But we've got to worry about what we can bring to the table and make Raith worry about us.

“We want to make Cappielow a hard place to come to for anyone and we got off to a great start against Dunfermline three weeks ago to set the standard, so it’s up to us now to continue that against Raith.

“I’d have liked last week to have been a league game in order for us to keep our momentum going but we had the cup game at Motherwell.

"I'm delighted to be back at Cappielow with the team and back to league business this week.

“Hopefully we can put in another positive performance and get the points that we’re looking for.

“Every game we go into, we go in looking to win so that we can propel ourselves further away from the bottom of the table and closer to Hamilton in sixth place.

“We need to give Raith the upmost respect, because they’re having a fantastic season, but if we can perform to the level that we have done over the last month then we’ll be okay.

“What we can’t afford to do is to get too complacent and think that after a couple of good results and a couple of good performances that it’s going to happen every week, because every game and every team are different.”

Imrie also expressed his delight in being able to welcome back fans in a full capacity for the first time since his appointment just before Christmas.

He told the Tele: “I’m delighted for the fans to be back in with no restrictions.

“Covid has had a lot to answer for in the last two or three seasons with fans out, fans back, then the 500 restriction.

“Hopefully tonight they can come back in their numbers, back the team and enjoy the game with us getting a good result for them.

“Another positive result will go a long way in helping us continue making Cappielow a fortress again.

"I set out to do that when I first came in and the fans really can be our tweltfh man in doing that.”
