A TALENTED teenage footballer is set to go for goals on the international stage.

Clydeview Academy's Millie Paton, who is signed with Rangers, has been picked from hundreds of hopefuls across the country for the Scottish Schools U-15 girls team.

The 14-year-old will now play for her country at a major tournament in England as well as taking on Northern Ireland in a warm up match.

She told the Tele it is a dream come true after first falling in love with the beautiful game at five years old.

Now Millie hopes to rise through the ranks and follow Inverclyde football star Amy Muir down the wing.

Third year pupil Millie, from Wemyss Bay, said: "I never, ever expected to be picked for the team.

"At the trials there was so much talent and the standard was so high.

"There are so many talented players out there, I couldn't believe it when I was told I was selected.

"We had out first training session at Toryglen and I loved every single minute of it.

"It was great to meet other players from all over the country

Millie first started playing for Ardgowan Development with her cousin and soon showed a flair for the game.

The left back now plays for Rangers under-16s having recently been moved up as part of a restructuring at the Ibrox club's academy.

On top of this she plays Scottish Schools West Region and also turns out for Clydeview.

Millie, who trains up to four times a week, will be taking part in the Bob Docherty Five Nations tournament organised by the Schools Association International Board, lining up against the best from England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

The young sports star says she is excited by the huge rise in the women's game.

She said: "The girls' game is so professional now and there are so many opportunities.

"All the older players are so supportive as well and give us so much encouragement."

Inverclyde had a record number of girls selected to take part in the trials for the Scottish Schools u-15s teams as the game continues to grow in popularity.

Clydeview PE teacher Emma Foster, who coaches her school's side, is delighted at Millie's success.

She said: "Millie is such a role model for other pupils, her success is all down to her own hard work and commitment.

"We are very proud of her here at Clydeview."
