TERRIFIED residents in a block of flats are living in fear of neighbours from hell running amok in Broomhill.

People living in a close on Mill Street are being terrorised regularly by anti-social behaviour, with all-night parties, mindless vandalism, threats and violence making their lives a misery.

In a shocking recent incident yobs hurled a table out of a window onto the ground below, smashed up the close door and splattered the entrance with tubs of paint.

Locals say the area is fast becoming a no-go zone, with the police being called out up to three times a night.

Now ward Councillor Colin Jackson has asked housing chiefs to start monitoring their 24-hour-security system and boot the thugs out.

He said: "Good residents here are living in fear of these people every single weekend.

"It is not not on.

"When someone challenged one of them they were viciously attacked.

"The individuals causing the problems are not teenagers, they are adults.

"People are too frightened to speak up for fear of reprisals, but I'm not.

"I grew up here but I am sorry to say that you wouldn't walk in that area on a Friday or Saturday night now.

"It is a no-go zone.

"All this was supposed to stop with the regeneration.

"Tenants were supposed to be checked.

"When you look around at a mess like this you just think, look at the state of the place, where is the regeneration?"

Cllr Jackson says the housing association must step in urgently and evict those responsible for the madness.

He added: "Why should others have to put up with this, it is not right.

"River Clyde Homes, the police and the council need to get together and do something about it.

"For a start the CCTV cameras need to be monitored 24 hours a day, and then they'll catch them."

River Clyde Homes told the Tele they are aware of the problems on the street and added that they are working closely with their partners to address it.

A spokesperson said: “River Clyde Homes continue to work closely with our partners Police Scotland and Inverclyde Council to address anti-social behaviour in Mill Street.

"Any customers who wish to confidentially provide information on anti-social behaviour should contact us on 0800 013 2196.”
