TWO Tele reporters were commended as the paper was praised during a full council meeting.
David Goodwin and Amy Shearer were praised by councillors after being named as finalists at the Scottish Press Awards last year.
Several senior council members praised Amy, who won 'Young Journalist of The Year' at the PPA Scotland awards for her work highlighting important issues such as mental health.
Council leader Stephen McCabe said she was an 'inspiration to young people who want a career in journalism'.
Elected members also praised the Tele newsroom for being Newsquest's best performing UK daily print title for 2021.
Councillor Chris McEleny said: "It's commendable that the Greenock Telegraph has managed to maintain its presence in Inverclyde.
"Almost all of the staff are based in Inverclyde and they care about Inverclyde.
"Considering that they're up against national titles and they managed to outsell them, I think that's something the council should commend and congratulate them on."
