DRIVERS across Inverclyde are facing a fuel crisis this morning as three of the main suppliers' pumps ran dry.
Morrisons and both Tesco filling stations run out of diesel amid mounting fears of shortages across the UK.
Motorists said Tesco had none by 7am this morning, with Morrisons in Greenock out of diesel by 10.30am.
People are being asked not to panic buy despite fears of potential fuel rationing due to a shortage across Europe.
One driver we spoke to at Tesco this morning said: "I would encourage people to continue with their normal fuel buying habits.
"I have seen a number of petrol stations here either out of or low on diesel in the last week. In situations like this in the past, panic buying has followed when there appears to be a supply issue. People start filling their tank, despite normally only using £20 of fuel a month and that has further exacerbated the supply problem.
"We all need to make sure there is enough to go around."
It is currently unclear when the three supermarkets will have diesel back on sale.
