A COMEDY duo had windows gleaming and youngsters beaming as they visited Branchton Community Centre.

Buff and Sheen, touring window cleaners, interact with youngsters through the glass in a fun show that ends with lots of soapy bubbles.

Actors Alex McCabe and Suzi Cunningham came up with the idea through lockdown and it has taken off.

Alex said: "Suzi and I have worked for a long time in the community using dance, performing for people in care homes, for kids and people with disabilities.

"We wanted to do something where we could reach people that weren't able to engage online and this meant we could still perform, but do it safely through the glass."

Suzi said: "Everyone has a window - so we came up with the idea of using music and dance and it also meant we could work at care homes and see people who were shielding.

"It was incredible placing hands against hands through the glass barrier, especially for people who hadn't had a hug for months."

Children from St Joseph's and Bluebird nurseries went along to see the show along with senior citizens from Branchton's pensioners' group.

Alex said: "The kids got really stuck in and loved it.

"We were keen to perform to an intergenerational audience and bring all ages together.

"Through the last two years of Covid, different generations have been split off from one another - we want to bring everyone together in a safe way, so they can enjoy each other's company."

The touring show was held in conjunction with the Beacon Arts Centre, who are trying to take culture out into the community.

Pauline Kane, Beacon director, said: "We are excited to bring MoonSlide’s Buff and Sheen to care homes, primary schools and community hubs across the Inverclyde area.

"At the Beacon we believe creativity, laughter and moments of joyful connection are essential for everyone’s health and wellbeing and Buff and Sheen are the perfect instigators to bring people together.”
