CLYDEVIEW Academy pupils received the royal seal of approval at a prestigious event held in the capital.

A group of seven young people travelled to Edinburgh for the Lord Lyon Society's royal launch at the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

The pupils were invited by Dr Joseph John Morrow, The Right Honourable the Lord Lyon King of Arms, after he made a visit to Clydeview in November last year.

Pupilshave been working on designing a coat of arms for the school and told the Lord Lyon all about the project when he visited last year.

He spoke to the young people about heraldry and the 350th anniversary of the public register of arms, which includes details of all the coats of arms in Scotland.

The Lord Lyon was so impressed by the enthusiasm shown by the Clydeview pupils that he invited them to the exclusive event.

Head boy Harry Lynn presented HRH Princess Royal with a brooch of the Lord Lyon Society badge created by Roddy Young of Clan Crest Silver in Inverness, from a design by Mark Dennis.

Harry was joined by fellow pupils Alexander Darroch, Nairne Gillespie, Ilaria Murray, Lewis Bett, Christy Campbell and Molly Galbraith.

Clydeview Academy head teacher Craig Gibson and Claire Wooler, principal teacher of art and design, joined the pupils.

Mr Gibson said: "The Lord Lyon is very passionate about education and was really impressed by the young people when he visited.

"We were honoured to represent Clydeview and we're very proud of our contribution to heraldry.

"We were all very excited about it and it was a lovely way to finish the term."
