A FIGHT late at night involving two men on a Greenock town centre street resulted in both being taken to hospital injured — and their arrests by police.

The pair, aged 32 and 24, are alleged to have become embroiled in a violent confrontation in the Dalrymple Street/Laird Street area shortly after 10pm on Tuesday.

Detectives and uniformed police arrived at the scene shortly afterwards and threw a cordon around the crime scene while investigations into the incident took place.

Paramedics arrived in an ambulance and both injured men were taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley.

A wheelie bin outside the Black Cat pub on Laird Street was overturned during the disturbance.

Police confirmed yesterday morning that the two men had been arrested.

They had not been charged with any offence as the Telegraph went to press, with enquiries into the matter said to be ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "At 10.10pm on Tuesday officers were called to a report of a disturbance in the Dalrymple Street area of Greenock.

"Two men aged 32 and 24 were taken to the RAH in Paisley.

"Both have been arrested in connection with the incident and enquiries remain ongoing."
