COMMUNITY champions in Branchton are flying the flag for Ukraine after raising £1,500 to help its people.

The community centre raised it from a sale of goods which will go to the Ukraine Appeal run by the Disasters Emergency Committee.

The items, which were donated by Amazon in Gourock, included household products, clothes and shoes.

Willie Wilson, Branchton centre manager, said: "We hold regular events like these and the proceeds go to help the local community and other causes in Inverclyde.

"But the feeling from the people who use the centre was that we should and do something this time for Ukraine.

"It was a really good turnout and I'm delighted we raised such a superb amount."
