COMIC book fans were able to meet and take pictures with some Marvel superheroes as they flew into Greenock for a special convention.

Comic Con at the Oak Mall brought enthusiasts together to show off their own costumes and cosplay dress, participate in workshops and revel in gaming and much more.

The event was arranged by BGCP Comic Con and organisers estimate that between up to 2,000 locals came along.

Organiser and founder Ian Bonar says bringing free events to communities outside big cities is important to him.

He said: “I am from Rutherglen, and growing up as a comic fanatic, I would have loved to have these events at my doorstep.

“Bringing this free event to smaller communities is what I love to do.

"It brings a lot of joy to other people when I can bring popular characters like the Bumblebee and Iron Man costume along to towns like Greenock.

“It makes it more attractive and affordable to everyone.

"People then don’t have to travel into big cities, spend £20 for a ticket and hundreds more at a bigger Comic Con event.”

Ian organised around 12 events per year prior to the pandemic but is now running them in different parts of Scotland every weekend, with Inverclyde one of the busiest.

He added: “It’s all consuming but I love doing it.

"Seeing the reception on the day was amazing.

“I want to thank everyone who came to the Oak Mall."

Ian hopes to bring the event back to Oak Mall, but the next BGCP Comic Con event will be held in Ayr on June 4.
