GREENOCK Players are 'Stepping Out' at the Beacon this month.

The toe-tapping West End and Broadway hit by Richard Harris is sure to raise a laugh with audiences as it is brought to the stage locally.

The show is about a group of social misfits at a tap class who are asked to perform for charity.

Director Mary Goodwin said: "They all come from very different backgrounds and we learn about them as the play goes on.

"There are lots of laughs and a bit of drama as the big night approaches."

The cast of 10 took a crash course in tap dancing and have been perfecting their moves since the middle of March.

Mary said: "We have been rehearsing in a local church and it has been great fun.

"None of the cast are tap dancers except for Karen Henry, who plays the teacher, so they’ve all had to learn for the show."

It was a show that Mary had been keen to stage for quite some time and proved perfect from an financial point of view following the pandemic.

She said: "We were able to do it on a tight budget.

"All the local drama clubs have suffered financially over the pandemic."

The play runs on May 27 and 28 in the arts centre's studio theatre.
