A TEENAGE boy was attacked by a group of youths in Port Glasgow.

The 15-year-old male was set upon by a gang near Highholm Avenue at around 8pm on Monday.

The teenager did not sustain any serious injuries in attack, which police say appears to be unprovoked.

Officers are investigating reports of the group acting in an anti-social manner before the assault took place.

Chief Inspector Paul Cameron called the incident 'despicable'.

He added: "I'm astonished that some of our young people think it's acceptable to conduct themselves in this manner.

"This kind of behaviour won't be tolerated and the young people involved will be held to account."

Police are now reviewing CCTV footage and urging anyone with information to come forward.
