AN Inverclyde musician's dream of playing one of the most iconic venues in the world will come true next month.

Drummer Lesley McLaren will take to the stage at the Barrowlands in Glasgow next month with her band Lola in Slacks.

The band, whose album Moon Moth is out just now, will be supporting cult indie rockers Goodbye Mr Mackenzie at the iconic venue on June 17.

The glittering support slot came about after Martin Metcalfe from Goodbye Mr Mackenzie got in touch with Lesley and the band.

Lola in Slacks had supported Martin's band The Filthy Tongues at a gig in Glasgow back in 2015.

Lesley said: "It's amazing that seven years later, after that tiny gig, we're supporting Martin again but this time it's at the Barrowlands.

"I'm really chuffed that he asked us to play and we're all so excited about it.

"It's a really big deal for us to be playing on that stage.

"Goodbye Mr Mackenzie have quite a hardcore cult following so it will be a brilliant experience."

Lesley, who also drums with Altered Images, the Hedrons and Broken Chanter, has been to see many bands in the world-famous venue over the years.

Her first experience of the venue was The Verve back in 1998, and she went on to see bands including Foo Fighters, The Hives, Arcade Fire and Franz Ferdinand Sparks.

Lesley said there's something special about the Barras stage that makes it popular with bands and artists all over the world.

She added: "It's that feeling when you're walking up towards the venue and you see those iconic lights.

"It's in an edgy part of the town and parts of it are still so old-fashioned, it's great.

"The sound quality is always brilliant too.

"It's like a social club on a huge scale."

The Greenock musician admit Lola in Slacks will soon be doing something that 'every Scottish band hopes for and aspires to'.

Lesley added: "When you're young and you start going to gigs at the Barrowlands, you always hope you'll get a shot on the stage one day.

"It's a dream come true."
