FAMILIES had a spring in their step as they flocked to the community centre in Gibshill for an action-packed activity day.

They were treated to a jam-packed schedule including a petting zoo, bouncy castle, face painter and a children's entertainer at the fabulous fun day.

The event was the result of a £2,000 grant to voluntary organisations meaning activities were able to be offered at no cost by Claire Farr and the team.

She says it was the perfect way to bounce back from all the disruption caused by the pandemic.

The senior development worker told the Tele: "We couldn't believe how many people turned up.

"We had people queuing to get in from before we even opened.

"It's so nice to see the centre busy again and families back enjoying what we have to offer.

"Everything worked really well - the face painting was a big hit and everyone was really excited to meet the animals at the petting zoo.

"We've not been able to do anything like this for so long because of coronavirus, so it was brilliant to put on this event as a result of the grant."

Running the Animal Man Mini Zoo on the day was Andrew Crerand, who was on hand to show off everything from rabbits to tarantulas.

Andrew said: "It was so busy and didn't stop for the whole time we were open.

"The young people loved getting involved, although the adults were a bit apprehensive about some of the offerings such as the snakes!

"It's great to be able to bring the mini zoo to community events like this again."
