CROWN Care Centre is throwing its doors open for a right royal celebration next week.

The popular day centre is holding a free community party to mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee on Friday June 3.

There will be entertainment, a barbecue and a host of raffle prizes up for grabs.

Jaswinder Kaur, activity co-ordinator, said: "We were awarded £2,000 Meliora funding which was fantastic for a small organisation to win so many votes. It's been overwhelming.

"We are holding a free event for the whole community. There will be the Clydeside Singers with songs from all the eras, singer Mark Steele, a Barbecue, local DJ, a vintage fire engine and facepainting for the children."

Manager Meg Wallace wants to thank local business for their support in providing raffle prizes for the day.

She said: "It's been a lot of work, but we are so excited and if it wasn't for Jaswinder and all the support we have received from the community, we wouldn't been able to do this."

She quipped: "I think we nailed it because Jaswinder, to tell them that we were holding the event in case they were concerned about the noise - and they are all coming along."

As well as 'Crown' hampers, there will also be a bottle stall and home baking.

There will be a chef on hand, scouts will also be helping out and the Mid Kirk is providing tables and chairs and volunteers to man stalls.

Jaswinder and Meg would like to thank the Co-op on Eldon Street, Aldi, Lidl, Morrisons, Marks and Spencer and Boots for all the donations towards our bottle stall and hampers.

The event runs between noon and 3.30pm and the hampers will be raffled at 2.30pm.

Everyone is welcome.
