POLICE are touring local off-licences and shops in a bid to crack down on under-age drinking.

Officers from the licensing department are visiting premises promoting their new 'It'll Cost You' campaign.

It reminds people of the penalties for anyone caught buying alcohol for under-16s.

The criminal offence can result in a fine of up to £5,000, along with a prison sentence.

The Scotmid shop in Greenock's Murdieston Street is one of the latest places visited during the push.
