PUPILS, parents, teachers and invited guests celebrated the Queen's platinum jubilee in style at Gourock Primary.

The school hosted a street party full of fun and colour to mark Her Majesty's 70 years on the throne.

Every pupil in the school enjoyed a special tea party at a huge table set up in the playground.

Millie Harris, 11, was Queen for the day and Lewis Forbes, also 11, took on the role of Prince Charles at the celebration.

They sat at the top table along with guests including Councillor Francesca Brennan and Reverend David Burt of Old Gourock & Ashton Church.

After the tasty lunch, the youngsters enjoyed an indoor disco, a mystifying magician and were treated to a Boogie Bugs sing-a-long.

Tots from Binnie Street nursery had fun on the bouncy castle too.

Head teacher Christine Murray said the day of fun marked the culmination of a three-day celebration to mark the huge royal occasion.

She said: "We received funding through Inverclyde Council's Meliora fund and decided to hold events that would get the whole community involved.

"It's been a great success.

"The children have been learning all about the Queen and the jubilee and the history of the Royal Family too."

Earlier in the week, the school organised other activities including a community concert at Old Gourock & Ashton and a sporting event with Moorfoot and Ardgowan primary pupils.

All of the fun was made possible thanks to the hard work of the school's Parents in Partnership group, the Active Schools team, associated secondary Clydeview Academy and Gourock Primary staff and pupils.

Mrs Murray said the celebrations would not have been possible without the support of the wider community.

She added: "We've been overwhelmed by the support we've received.

"This is the first time parents have been able to visit the school since Covid so it's been fantastic to see them all.

"We just wanted to get as many people all celebrating together as possible."
