A COMMUNITY-minded Scouting event was abuzz with action to mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

The 1st Gourock Scouts opened the doors of their base at Coppermine Community Centre to welcome the community in for an afternoon of fun-filled events on Friday.

As well as outdoor games, Boogie Bugs session with local coordinator Lynette Beaton and a bouncy castle, it was lights, camera, action for the first use of the centre's new cinema equipment.

The group, run by Scout leader Mark Gallacher, received over £4,000 from Inverclyde Council's Meliora Festival Fund to host the event and install a new sound system and projector screen.

Marks says he is 'delighted' to see the formerly disused space come brought back to life.

He told the Tele: "Our plan is to hold community cinema days, and Friday's event was the perfect chance to try it out for the first time.

"Considering the hall used to lie empty, it's great to see so many people here it."

Families also could enjoy a free tea bar and face-painting at the event, with local mum Sarah Bradley commending the Scouts for their efforts.

She added: "The event was amazing and exactly what the community needs.

"We would drive past here and see this place lying empty and it's amazing to see what has now been achieved. The Scouts have brought it back to life."
