SENIOR pupils at a Greenock secondary went the extra mile to make its new intake feel welcome.

Fourth year students at Notre Dame High have took on the role of 'buddies' for the youngsters who will be joining the school after summer.

They gave them a tour around the school and answered questions.

This task was previously carried out by sixth year students but depute head teacher Gerard Gordon says the responsibility was passed to S4 so they could offer continued support.

He told the Tele: "By having our S4 pupils take on the responsibility, it means the young people joining us have a familiar face for longer and can build up a relationship with the older students.

"They have been absolutely outstanding - patient, kind and have really helped our new pupils feel confident about joining us after summer."
