A NEW weekly community initiative is being set up to kick off the day the right way at Cappielow.

'Breakfast and a Blether', a morning mental health meet, is the latest wellbeing project from the award-winning team at Morton in the Community.

Starting this week, anyone aged 18 and over is welcome to attend Cappielow every Wednesday morning from 9.30-11am for breakfast rolls and a chat with like-minded people.

Jonny Roy, health and wellbeing manager for Morton in the Community, says he's delighted to open the doors to Cappielow for the free weekly event.

Jonny told the Tele: "This is something we've wanted to do for a long time, it's important to us to tackle social isolation.

"We are happy to be able to have everyone along to Cappielow for a focus on health and wellbeing in a comfortable and welcoming setting.

"It's open to everyone, we're even hoping we see some of the care homes attend too.

"It's a simple but effective way to get people together and talking whilst enjoying something nice for breakfast."

The project has been funded by the Inverclyde Communities Mental Health & Wellbeing Fund and will run up until Christmas.

Jonny, who also helps oversee other community projects such as Morton's lifesaving TeamTalk initiative, says there has already been a great deal of interest in the new meetings.

He added: "A lot of our support groups are in the evening, meaning that sometimes people are waiting all day for it to start.

"This way we can get folk up and out first thing, it starts the day the correct way.

"We've already had a great deal of interest in it, so I'm really looking forward to getting started."
