AN INVERCLYDE pipe band has continued its spectacular season with another big result at a major championship.

Lower Clyde Pipers and Drums secured their third podium finish of the season when they came out top of their class at the recent European Pipe Band Championships in Inverness.

After a last-minute rehearsal outside Inverness Airport the night before, the band saw off 13 other bands to be crowned the best group in grade 4A.

A spokesperson told the Tele that the members were 'delighted'.

They said: "It was a very happy bus back to Inverclyde.

"Although we've had a great start to the season, the band are keeping focussed on doing well in the remaining competitions.

"We still have the world championships and the nationals to compete in and want to continue to give a good account of ourselves."

The trip to Inverness was the latest in a series of successful outings for the band, who won their category at the British Championships in Gourock earlier this year.

The group also recently picked up a podium finish at the UK Championships in Lurgan, Northern Ireland.

The band's next major championship performance will be at the Scottish Championships in Levengrove Park, Dumbarton, on July 27.
