MP Ronnie Cowan has praised the council for supporting the potential rejuvenation of Inverclyde's peatland.

Last year he urged the local authority to find out if it would be possible to restore some of the area damaged through drainage and erosion over many years.

The local authority then secured support from the Peatland Action project, part of NatureScot, for an investigation of council-owned land to see which areas could developed.

Consultants carried out a study of tenant farmers' land at Garvocks/Dowries and Hardridge and recently published their findings.

Mr Cowan says the reports could pave the way for vital investment which will help restore and preserve peatland for generations.

He added: "The findings of the reports are highly technical, but my understanding is these areas could benefit from restoration.

"This could mean investment from the Scottish Government's £250 million Peatland Fund and from Glasgow city.

"I'm hopeful that the findings will mean resources being made available to protect and nurture our precious peatlands here in Inverclyde."
