GOUROCK Golf Club’s Women Into Golf (WIG) programme has been hugely successful again this year.

Thursday night coaching sessions ran throughout the months of May and June with over 20 ladies taking part many of whom were taking up golf for the first time.

The coaching sessions were planned and run by Morag Cowe and Liz Rankin with assistance from Frances Wilson, Anne Clark and Ian Samuel.

Full use was made of the club’s various facilities – the indoor studio, the putting green, the ZIG ZAG course on the first fairway and the shortened blue course.

As the weeks progressed it was clear that the ladies were getting more confident and as a result the Texas scramble competitions became increasingly competitive.

The programme will be extended in the coming weeks to include Monday night sessions with ladies who are already members, allowing the new ladies to meet and learn from people who have either been a member for a number of years or like themselves have recently come though the annual WIG programme.

A WhatsApp group has been created and the ladies are now actively arranging times to play with each other.

To date more than 12 of the 2022 WIG intake have signed up as members which is a great boost to the club's ladies’ section.
