A BRAVE young boy who battled a brain tumour checked in at the Morrison store in Greenock as part of a mammoth charity tour which has raised a staggering £138,000.

Local store community champion Carol Mountain welcomed teen fundraising champion Jack Thompson as he made a special visit to the town.

The 14-year-old is travelling around every one of the chain's supermarkets to raise as much money as he can for Young Lives v Cancer.

Jack, from Gateshead, had a brain tumour as a baby and was left partially sighted when it was removed.

He was delighted to meet local charity champion Carol, who has worked tirelessly during the pandemic to help local people in need.

Morrisons west of Scotland retail manager Richard Thornton said: "It is great to have Jack up here.

"He is a fantastic boy and has raised so much money.

"Morrisons in Greenock is so glad to support this cause.

"It was great for Jack to meet Carol, who is one of our very own superheroes.

"She has done so much to help the community in Inverclyde. I am very proud of her, and so are all of her colleagues."

Jack, who visited the Rue End Street store along with his nan Elaine McKay, told the Tele that he thought the people of Greenock were 'very friendly'.

He said: "They are just like the people from where I live in Gateshead.

"I love supermarkets and I've loved going round all of the difference places. It's been a real adventure.

"Morrisons have helped me out so much and I want to help other people in return."

Carol says she was delighted to meet Jack and his .

She told the Tele: "Jack is fantastic and it was brilliant to have him here in Greenock.

"We try to do as much as we can in Morrisons for charity and we were so pleased to help his efforts and such a great cause."
