A NEW £1.7M children's home in Port Glasgow is finally set to open four years after work first started.
Social care bosses are hoping the keys can be handed over this month after a prolonged construction project beset with problems from the start.
Work on the new home was completely halted in February 2020 when contractors JB Bennett Ltd went bust.
Then the pandemic delayed finding a new builder.
Local firm WH Kirkwood were appointed to take over in 2021, but supply chain issues affecting the industry have caused further hold-ups.
A report by senior council official Allen Stevenson said: 'As previously reported, the contractor had intimated delays due to supply chain issues impacting the programme, with the most recent issues affecting availability of key components for the heating system and difficulty securing the necessary approved rendering subcontractor.
"The works are now nearing completion on site with handover anticipated mid-August."
