A MAN is to stand trial charged with carrying out a murder bid petrol bomb attack at a woman's house in Greenock.
Andrew Sutherland faces accusations of attempted murder and another charge under the Explosive Substances Act.
It is alleged that the 53 year-old threw a brick and petrol bombs at a window of a flat in the town's Holmscroft Street on November 2 in 2020.
Prosecutors say that this sparked a fire outside the property and that Sutherland tried to kill a woman who had been living there.
The other charge claims Sutherland bought cloths to use as 'wicks' in petrol bombs and that he did 'manufacture' such 'explosive devices'.
This is said to have occurred at the Tesco store in Greenock as well as at the address in the murder bid accusation.
The case called at the High Court in Glasgow, where Sutherland's legal team pleaded not guilty on his behalf.
Lord Mulholland has fixed a trial which is due to begin in July next year.
Sutherland, of Beith in Ayrshire, remains on bail meantime.
