SCORES of job cuts, a library closure and reductions in school staffing are among the options being weighed up to help plug a £14.8 million hole in council funding.

A new Inverclyde Council report outlines £12 million of potential budget cuts over the next two years - including over 200 job losses - which are being considered to help address a funding shortfall caused by growing financial pressures.

Officers are recommending that members of the council’s policy and resources committee sign off on an initial savings package of £608,000, with a view to making £4 million worth of savings before the local authority’s Christmas break.

The £608,000 package includes eight savings, which were chosen on the basis that there are ‘no impacts on front line services or employees’.

Among the measures suggested are plans to cut the roads and property departments’ budgets for conducting feasibility studies and a reduction of funding for Early Years services’ central resources.

The Tele will have more on the potential cuts and full reaction and analysis early next week.
