A LOCAL music shop owner is getting ready to put his own spin on the Oak Mall's regular record and CD fair.

James Haggart, who opened Reverence Music in the shopping centre earlier this year, will be taking on a leading role in the running of its regular event.

The Greenock businessman told the Tele he wants to add live music to the event and expand the range of records on offer.

He said: "The fair has been going in Greenock for decades and I've worked with the guys closely over the last few years.

"It's going to be a joint venture and I'm happy to put my name to it now I've got a shop in the area and help out.

"I want to try and make it an even bigger event and if we can incorporate live music into it that would be brilliant.

"It'll be a gentle transition at first as I take over and get to grips with things.

"The guys who have organised it over the years have done a great job with it and they'll still be there.

"I think together we can make it an even better event than it already is."

James says the next event won't be a drastic departure from the fair's familiar format, as he is aiming to phase in live music over the next year.

The shop owner hopes the event will be attended by many of the regular customers who have supported his store over its first three months.

He is also considering expanding his shop further to accommodate his growing number of customers.

James added: "I want to fill this unit right out before I move onto new space.

"We've got lots more stock in now and soon we might need to look at more space.

"I've got lots of great folk who come in and support us regularly.

"That's what's been keeping us growing and going.

"We've also been doing live music events in the store in conjunction with B-12 entertainment and we're hoping to do more.

"It''s all going really well and we've had a great response from local people."

*The next Oak Mall record and CD fair will take place on September 23 and 24 between 10am and 4pm, and is free to attend.
