A MORTON legend who became a hit pundit for the club during closed doors Covid matches is now signing up for an even bigger role at Cappielow.

'King of Cappielow' Andy Ritchie says he feels he is back where he belongs after being unveiled as a commercial ambassador for the club.

The star of the 70s is proving just as talented off the field as he was on it.

Andy struck up a winning partnership with broadcaster Gerry McDade as the pair's online commentaries entertained fans locked out of games during the pandemic.

They already work together hosting matchday hospitality and now Andy is taking on a new role.

He said: "I am really proud of what we have achieved so far at Morton.

"We have had praise from all over the world and fans at other clubs for our commentaries during Covid.

"We had a real connection with those watching, it was a privilege.

"I loved every minute of it.

"Gerry is a real professional but it was also great fun."

Andy's new role will be to build links with the local business scene, forging new links between the community owned club and firms based here.

He told the Tele: "I feel the club is really heading in the right direction.

"I want to go out there and connect with businesses and grow opportunities for Morton."

While Andy is fondly remembered by fans of a certain vintage, he says he has a whole new army of supporters from the younger generation.

He said: "It is down to the wonders of YouTube and the old match clips on there.

"Wee boys as young as seven want to talk to me my about the famous goal I scored at Cappielow against Aberdeen back in the day.

"It is magic to see that.

"I just want to try to tap into that kind of interest and turn it in to a commercial success for Morton."
