MORTON boss Dougie Imrie believes his men will be taking on the best side in the division when they clash with Partick Thistle today.

The Ton make the short trip to Glasgow on the back of their SPFL Trust Trophy victory over Ayr United nine days ago and will be looking to carry that on as they return to league duty.

Their last two Championship fixtures have ended in defeat and the manager admits it is important they avoid another one.

Imrie told the Tele: "We don’t want to be going into a rut of losing three, four or five games in a row, that is never great.

"We bounced back pretty quickly in the cup game and now we go into a run of three games in a week where we need to be picking up points.

"Partick are the league leaders and are on their own patch, so we know how difficult it will be.

"But overall last season we performed pretty well against them, so they’ll know that they have been in a game, just the same as us.

"I know we will be under pressure at times but we need to go to Firhill and put our stamp on the game.

"Partick have got a really good squad, I think it is the best in the league this season.

"Ian McCall has done a really good job over the summer in recruiting players, but they are there to be shot at and we have got to go there full of confidence and try and get something from the game."

Imrie says he knows all about the individuals that could pose problems for his team at Firhill this afternoon.

He told the Tele: "They have got a focal point in Brian Graham at the top end of the pitch but they've got good players all over the place - Steven Lawless on his day is a handful and they have Stuart Bannigan and Ross Docherty in the middle of the pitch who are real engines for them.

"Even at the back they have got really good experience with Lee Hodson in on loan from Kilmarnock and Jack McMillan who they signed from Livingston and Kevin Holt has been there a few years with them.

"They have got experience throughout their team, but we have got to stop their threats.

"If you can do that then nine times out of ten you will get something from games.

"If you don’t do your job properly you are going to inevitably lose games, so we have got to be switched on today for the full 90 minutes.

"Everybody needs to do their individual jobs and then as a team take the game to Partick."
