A GROUP of talented local actors are bringing a popular Scottish musical to Port Glasgow for the first time.

New Port Theatre Company will stage Sunshine on Leith at Port Glasgow Community Campus tonight and tomorrow.

The show uses the music of The Proclaimers to tell the story of two young men who leave the army and try to settle back into life in Leith.

Formed in 2017 by former pupils, New Port Theatre Company has grown in recent years.

Its members include former pupils and teachers from Craigmarloch School and Julie Ballantyne is the musical director.

Director and former Port High School pupil Sophie Brown hopes the show will bring a bit of light into the lives of local people in difficult times.

Sophie said: "We just wanted to bring something positive to the stage and bring the community back together after a tough couple of years.

"It's a real sing and dance-along show and will appeal to everyone.

"We can't wait to get on stage and tell the story."

Tickets are priced £6 for adults and £3 concession and are available on the door.

The shows start at 7.30pm.
