AN INNOVATIVE Inverclyde businessman has stepped in to save a local bar from closure and prevent job losses.

Kevin Devine today revealed his 'big plans' for a new venue called 'The Vault' at the former Old Bank Bar on William Street.

He is changing the premises, which most recently operated as Martini's, into a bar offering 'grub, a pub and a club' under the one roof.

Kevin had been working as manager of Martini's and when the leaseholder gave it up he decided to take it over.

The 37-year-old has teamed up with old school pal and colleague Fiona McConnell and together with a team of six bar staff and entertainer Kye Danny West, they plan to create a whole new experience for customers.

Kevin, who has a restaurant background, told the Tele: "I want to take the place in a new direction, so I have decided to invest everything into creating The Vault.

"People have said I'm mad taking on a business in these times, but I have a real plan for the place.

"I'll be taking a hands-on approach to making it great.

"I've kept on all the staff we had at Martini's, as they are all great.

"I'm so glad I've been able to keep them in jobs.

"I've got big plans for the place - it's exciting to retain the history of the building whilst creating a real modern offering."

The bar will now open six days a week and has a 2am licence as well as weekend entertainment from Kye and other performers.

Kevin hopes to turn the tide on the recent trend in the local hospitality sector.

He told the Tele: "When I started going out in Greenock there were seven nightclubs, now there is one.

"I want The Vault to be a place where people can come for something good to eat, enjoy nice refined drinks then enjoy entertainment and dancing into the wee hours.

"I think we are bringing something different to the table."
