A TRIO of talented tennis lovers rubbed shoulders with the game's greats at an 'ace' experience at the Davis Cup.

Sisters Anna and Sophie Robertson and schoolmate Ella Morrison were part of the ball team at the cup's first round matches at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow.

The St Columba's Kilmacolm pupils, who have all played tennis since a very young age, met stars such as Sir Andy Murray and Dan Evans at the televised event which was watched by thousands.

Sophie, 15, previously was part of the ball team at the Murray Trophy, so was 'delighted' to be back courtside.

The S5 pupil told the Tele: "It was an amazing experience, I was really happy to take part again.

"The atmosphere was brilliant and it is such a brilliant thing to say you played a part in."

The first round matches saw Great Britain, USA, Netherlands and Kazakhstan go head-to-head for a place in November’s finals.

Ella, 11, says meeting her favourite players was a highlight of the experience.

The youngster, who was recently selected for the West of Scotland Under 12's tennis team to compete UK-wide, said: "I did feel a bit nervous as it was such a big experience.

"It was so cool to see the players in person and speak to them.

"I really enjoyed it."

The top two teams in each group advanced to the knock-out stage which will take place in Malaga in the last week in November.

The girls hope they will get to have a similar experience in the near future at the Billie Jean King cup, also at The Emirates.

Anna, who is 13, added: "I have played tennis for as long as I can remember, so it was really nice to be part of such a big event.

"It was amazing to meet famous players from all over the world."
