A BUSINESSWOMAN is shutting up shop after eight happy years of serving the community in Gourock.

Shona Bench, who runs Ashton Stores, in Albert Road is selling the lease and the business.

The 51-year-old says it has been a labour of love but one that fulfilled an ambition - and she feels now is the time to move on.

Shona said: "There are a few reasons, it's been eight years of working seven days a week.

"It's been a lifestyle.

"We are up at 5am in the morning and here until 6pm at night, seven days a week.

"I feel it's time to slow down.

"I've been thinking about it for a couple of months.

"My first grandchild Ayla was also born three months ago and I would like to spend more time with her."

Shona admits that it will be a wrench to say goodbye to her customers.

She said: "I will massively miss all my customers and the whole business, it's a great store.

"It is in a lovely area with lots of loyal customers and I would like to thank all of them for the support they have given us over the years."

Shona, who runs the shop with her partner Jim Ward, feels content to go now that she has fulfilled a dream come true.

She said: "I always wanted to own my own shop, that had always been my goal and I've done it.

"I'm pleased with myself and now I can move on.

"I was born and bred in Gourock but I live in Greenock now and this will be a new chapter for me.

"I'll be looking for a part time job."

The asking price for the premises leasehold is £30,000, with the option to create a new 10-20 year lease with the owner at £7,200 per annum.
