MORE than 550 fires in Inverclyde last year were started deliberately.
According to data published by the Scottish Government and Scottish Fire & Rescue Service, 693 fires occurred in Inverclyde in 2021/22.
Only 140 were accidental.
Overall, there has been an increase in the total number of fires in the district.
Last year, there were 586 in Inverclyde, of which 446 were deemed 'not accidental.'
