SUPPORT for those struggling with the cost of living continues to run from several venues in Inverclyde throughout the festive period.

The council is providing care packages - containing items such as gloves, scarves, hats, flasks, and torches - to 500 vulnerable Inverclyde residents to help them keep warm and looked after during the cold winter months.

It has also awarded suicide prevention charity Man On Inverclyde £3,000 for a 'heat and eat’ hub.

Additionally, many other organisations and individuals have come together to help those in need in recent months.

Regular events, such as 'Soup and Blether' sessions have been running from different venues - one of the newest announcements being a free lunch running from St John's Church in Gourock on January 2.

Inverclyde Foodbank - whose volunteers have handed out more than 3000 food parcels to hungry households since April - is currently closed for the festive season until January 4.

However, other foodbanks, warm spaces, and community cafés across the area will continue to run throughout this time, such as Branchton Community Centre who have opened their food shop over the festive season to support struggling families.
