YOUNG artists and photographers from across Inverclyde were put firmly in the frame as a special showcase was held to display their talents.

Gourock Rotary Club held a special competition with secondary school pupils from across the area taking part.

Their striking artworks and eye-catching images were in focus during an awards night held to recognise their skills, with Provost Drew McKenzie on hand to present prizes.

The young artist competition attracted many entries across both of categories - ages 11-13 and 14-17.

The theme was‘Sunrise and Sunset’ and judging took place at Greenock’s Rig Arts studio, where founder Karen Orr and Ukrainian artist Marina Gorbanova had the difficult task of deciding the winners.

The paintings were of a high standard and after a great deal of deliberation the pair decided that two contestants could not be separated and awarded a tie for first place in the senior category.

It was double delight for Clydeview Academy with Mia Astbury and Nina Kirk awarded joint first place, while second place went to Caitlyn Hogg and Ana Downie was third.

In the junior section St Columba's High students swept the board with Eva Coggins awarded first place and the judges could not separate Abigail Fitzharris and Casey Trainer, so awarded a joint second place, while Nuala Munro claimed third.

The 2022 Young Photographer Competition entries were judged by Geoffrey Orr, Camera Club secretary along with two enthusiastic photographers from the Rotary Club - Allister Boyle and John MacLeod.

The theme this year was 'the beauty of architecture’.

Digital entries were submitted from students from Clydeview Academy and St Stephen’s High in Port Glasgow.

First place went to Charlie Semple and second was Nina Kirk, while Leanna Campbell was third and a merit was awarded to Lucy Gorman.

The Rotary Club would like to thank all the young people and schools who participated in the contest.
