AN unusual celebration honouring the bard is taking place this weekend in Inverclyde.

RIG Arts is hosting 'An Alternative Burns Supper Trail' in Gourock Park tonight and at Lunderston Bay on Saturday for all ages.

The trail, which has been funded by the Scottish Government, will comprise four key tartan-clad elements.

Attendees can expect to meet musical performers, enjoy interactive activities such as a haggis hunt and will even have a meet and greet with a character called 'Tam O Banter'.

Karen Orr, Rig Arts' chief executive, says she's delighted to be bringing this idea to life.

She told the Tele: "It's been a real community effort and it will very much be a community-orientated event.

"We have lots of fun activities and art performances lined up, as well as having contributions from local schools like St Ninian's Primary.

"The events are entirely free and we have so much planned - it's really exciting to be able to do this for the community."

Along the trail, walkers can expect to meet Nanny Dee who will offer goodwill potato peeling readings and Wayne McGak, who will help audiences find the right tartan they should be wearing according to their clan.

There will also be campfire celebrations with food and drink from Rambling Recipes and arts and crafts sessions so that everyone can take home a memento of the evening.

Now the organisers have their fingers crossed for good weather.

Karen added: "We're keeping all crossed it is dry for everyone, as we've so many brilliant things planned.

"It's a real Burns celebration, so we'd also love people to wear tartan on the night.

"We're all looking forward to it."

Friday's Gourock Park event will run from 6-8pm, whilst the events at Lunderston Bay on Saturday will be on from 4.30-6.30pm.
