A GREENOCK born arts professional who has gone on to enjoy a successful decades-spanning career is set to take on a key role in the Scottish theatre industry.

Patricia Stead, who grew up locally before her career took her from places such as London to Australia, will return to Scotland in April to be the executive director and joint chief executive of the Tron Theatre in Glasgow.

The former Greenock Academy pupil, who still has family living in the area, says she's 'really excited' to be taking on the job.

Patricia, who studied at the University of Glasgow, told the Tele: "I am thrilled to be returning to Scotland to take on this new role from April.

"I've been so overwhelmed by the support and messages of congratulations.

"The Tron means so much to so many people across the country, so it's an incredibly exciting post to be taking on."

The former arts centre director in Perth, Australia, says her love of theatre all started here in Inverclyde.

The mum told the Tele: "I was featured once in the Greenock Telegraph for gaining a place at the Scottish Youth Theatre.

"Theatre has been part of my life for as long as I can remember.

"I was part of the Oracle youth theatre group locally.

"I have many fond memories of the Arts Guild, so it is lovely to be returning closer to home."

Patricia has held a variety of senior positions across the UK, including head of culture at Hammersmith & Fulham Council plus various posts with the Arts Council in England.

She was also an executive producer at Dance City in Newcastle.

The creative says local theatre extends beyond what is on the stage.

She said: "The creative sector reaches past the theatre, it is such an investment in the local community.

"It brings people of all ages together and creates so much joy.

"Places like the Tron and the Beacon Arts Centre are doing incredible work.

"I think there is nothing more worthwhile to be involved in."
