THE parent company of Gourock ferry firm CalMac has offloaded its stake in a southern English operation.

David MacBrayne Ltd announced it had sold its 50 per cent share in Solent Gateway to Associated British Ports.

Bosses say the deal brings a cash boost.

Robbie Drummond, CalMac’s chief executive, said: "The decision to invest in this joint venture on the south coast of England is an example of our entrepreneurial skill and vision, which has delivered a real value return for the Scottish Government and the public purse.

"We will work with our shareholder, the Scottish Ministers, to agree how receipts should be utilised."
