IT'S lights, camera, action for a budding young film-maker as he prepares to premiere his debut film to local cinema audiences.

Callum McLelland, of Port Glasgow, has been busy putting the final touches on 'Sharp Instinct' - a police comedy drama - before it is set to screen in the Waterfront Cinema next month.

The 13-year-old has been shooting, creating, editing and doing all the behind the scenes work, including creating a trailer.

Notre Dame pupil Callum recently received a bursary from the Dunlop Street school to help fund an introduction to film-making course at the Royal Conservatoire.

He told the Tele: "I'm really excited about it, this is something I have always wanted to do.

"I've been filming at different locations across Inverclyde and have roped in my family and friends to take on the starring roles.

"I started the project around the end of 2021, so it's great to get to the point where it is almost ready for people to watch.

"It has been really good fun doing it and I've learned a lot whilst making it."

The self-taught film buff will hold a premiere evening for invited guests in the local cinema before arranging screenings for the public, which will be held in Notre Dame.

Filmgoers are being asked to make a donation to Down Syndrome Scotland, a charity close to Callum's family, in return for watching the action-packed drama.

As well as shooting and editing the film, Callum has created a poster and will be pressing DVDs of his efforts.

His mum Debbie is gearing up to see herself in her starring role.

She says she is 'so proud' of Callum's efforts.

Debbie added: "He's absolutely brilliant at what he does.

"He's always been interested in all things films and digital, so it's great to see him doing things like this already.

"Callum is so excited to see it all come to life and we're really grateful to the local cinema for their support."
