A PROUD sister has told of her delight after her brother from Port Glasgow received an MBE from King Charles to honour his decades of work in the armed forces.

Jane Crawford was over the moon when she found out her brother, Major Robert Crawford, was to be given the award after serving in the army for 37 years.

Since leaving to join the army at 16, Robert's career has taken him all over the world, with his work as the quartermaster of 17 Port and Maritime Regiment saving the military huge sums of money.

Robert's family are 'incredibly proud' of him and his long service in the Royal Logistics Corps.

Jane said: "He’s a very humble guy, whenever he had a promotion he’d tell me he’d been put up for something but he wasn’t getting his hopes up, and then he would get it.

"Robert is not one of these people that forgets themselves, he knows where he comes from.

"He’s in Edinburgh until he retires but he’s taken a posting in the South Pacific at the moment.

"No matter where he goes he stays in touch with me.

"This is the first time in all his years he’s been based in Scotland and it’s so good that I can see more of him.

"Everyone back home is always asking after him, we’re all so proud."

Jane found out her brother was to receive the award on Hogmanay, the day before the New Year's Honours list was revealed.

She said: "When it came out he sent it to me and I was so delighted.

"I’m just so proud of him.

"It just shows how committed he is and how much good he’s done for the army.

"He does a great job of it and he’s been all over the world with it.

"My mum and dad are both dead and so is my older brother, but I just know they would all be over the moon about this.

"Robert has done everyone proud."
